IAA employees of the investigative units granted immunity

The law “On Internal Affairs Agencies” has been amended accordingly, Norma reports.

A special procedure has been established for initiating criminal proceedings against investigators and heads of investigative units of the Internal Affairs Agencies (IAA). This can be done by the prosecutor of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, prosecutors of the city of Tashkent, regions and prosecutors equated to them, and in relation to investigators, heads of divisions and the head of the Investigation Department under the Ministry of Internal Affairs – the Prosecutor General or his deputies.

It should be recalled that guarantees of a similar nature are held by deputies and senators, judges, including the Constitutional Court, prosecutors, SSS officers, lawyers, etc.

Other amendments and editorial changes have been made to the law:

- selection criteria for the service has been toughened. In particular, the Department of Internal Affairs will not accept people dismissed from other government agencies for negative reasons, as well as those who had previously been convicted of committing a crime, regardless of the measure of punishment, redemption or withdrawal of a criminal record and the application of an amnesty act (they could have previously taken upon redemption or withdrawal of a criminal record);

 - the utmost serving term as officers to the rank of lieutenant colonel inclusive has been increased up to 55 years (previously 50 years), and for women, regardless of special rank – up to 50 years (earlier 45 years).
