Specialists from Uzbekistan to undergo training courses at WMO headquarters in Geneva
First Deputy Director General of the Center of Hydrometeorological Service of Uzbekistan Bahriddin Nishonov and Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva Ulugbek Lapasov met with the Secretary General of the World Meteorological Organization of the UN (WMO) Petteri Taalas.
The meeting was held in the framework of Uzbekistan delegation’s participation in the 18th World Meteorological Congress, which takes place from June 3 to 14, 2019 in Geneva.
During the negotiations, WMO Secretary General Petteri Taalas was informed about the reforms being conducted in our country in the field of hydrometeorology and support provided by the government in this area.
In accordance with the special Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers adopted on November 29, 2018, new buildings were constructed for four meteorological stations in Tashkent, Syrdarya, Jizzakh and Surkhandarya regions. This year, the construction of buildings of 11 meteorological stations, 2 new snow avalanche stations and 2 regional hydrometeorology departments, as well as the overhaul of 3 meteorological stations are underway. It is planned to install 62 automatic meteorological stations with the attraction of grants from international partners in various projects.
The WMO Secretary General highly appreciated the contribution of Uzbekistan to the organization’s activities, as well as the measures being taken in our country to further improve the hydrometeorological sphere.
Following the meeting, the following agreements were reached:
- the organization of a specialized training course at the WMO headquarters in Geneva to improve the skills of Uzbek specialists;
- holding large regional and international WMO events in Uzbekistan in the near future.
