Social networks reported that the famous fountain on the Mustakillik Square in Tashkent is being demolished.

The press service of the capital’s administration denied this information and noted that major overhaul is underway.

“The fountain has not been renovated since it was built – it is more than 50 years. Today, there are cracks in it, which can cause water flow in the subway line under it. In addition, the fountain consumes 8 times more electricity than it is necessary. We will make it more energy-saving,” the administration noted.

According to the press service, by the end of this year, the updated fountain will be re-launched.
