Government plans to sell majority of power plants to private investors
The Uzbek authorities are planning to sell almost all power plants to private investors for several years. This was announced today by the Deputy Minister of Energy Sherzod Khodjayev, Kun.uz correspondent reports.
According to the Deputy Minister, at the first stage, selling part of the shares of power plants to private investors and creating joint ventures on the basis of a public-private partnership is considered. The next stage will be “selling the assets to private investors in whole”.
“In the end, several hydroelectric power stations and NPP will remain under the state ownership. That is, most of the production will be concentrated in private hands,” Khodjayev said at a roundtable on reforms in the energy sector.
“This model of phased reforming of the electricity industry guarantees to cover the growing demand of economic sectors and the population for electricity without a sharp increase in tariffs, as well as a gradual reduction in the role of the state and transition to full-fledged market relations,” he added.
