John Bolton: Uzbekistan plays an important role in launching peaceful negotiations on Afghanistan
Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov, during his stay in Washington, met with US National Security Advisor John Bolton, the press service of the MFA said.
The sides exchanged views on the current state of Uzbek-American relations and prospects for their further development.
Bolton welcomed the participation of such a representative delegation in the second Ministerial to Advance Religious Freedom in Washington.
“The parties stressed the mutual interest to move in line with the implementation of the Joint Political Statement “Uzbekistan – USA: the beginning of a new era of strategic partnership”, other joint agreements reached during the official visit of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the US and negotiations with President Donald Trump,” the press service said.
During the discussion of cooperation on the Afghan issue, the American side noted the important role of Uzbekistan in launching mechanisms for peaceful inter-Afghan dialogue, social-economic rehabilitation of Afghanistan, and its involvement in multidimensional regional relations in Central Asia.
“Excellent meeting today with Uzbekistan’s FM Kamilov. We discussed a wide range of common interests and how to best advance our partnership. We applaud Uzbek reforms and their positive impact on all of Central Asia and look forward to deepening US-Uzbek cooperation,” Bolton wrote in his Twitter account.
