American investment companies take interest in trading at the stock exchange of Uzbekistan

On July 22, in New York, an investment forum “Opportunities in the capital market of Uzbekistan” was held for the first time.

The event, organized jointly by the Agency for Capital Market Development and the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Washington, was attended by over 140 participants, including representatives of the largest American portfolio investors, leading investment and management companies, as well as about 20 leading Uzbek companies planning to place securities.

Director of the Agency Otabek Nazirov held a panel discussion with participation of experts from the leading world companies Citi, MUFG, Franklin Templeton, Dentons and others.

The forum participants were able to discuss the most topical issues and problems related to attracting investments into the securities of Uzbek issuers. A number of direct negotiations were held between the US portfolio investors and Uzbek companies on attracting investments.

Following the forum, many American investment companies expressed interest in entering the capital market of Uzbekistan through buying securities on a local stock exchange and opening their subsidiaries in the country.
