Uzbek archaeologists claim they discovered Alexandria Oksianskaya
On August 22-26, in four cities of Uzbekistan - Tashkent, Termez, Samarkand and Bukhara, within the framework of the Culture and Art Week, a forum “Uzbekistan at the crossroads of civilizations” will be held. During the event, sensational results of the excavation works at the legendary Alexandria Oksianskaya will be presented, the press service of Tourism Committee reported.
According to Uzbek researchers led by academician Edward Rtveladze, ancient Alexandria Oksianskaya was in the place of the current Kampyrtepa. For many years, scientific circles have been debating about where Alexandria Oksianskaya was located (ancient Termez, Ayrtam or Kampyrtepa).
Alexandria Oksianskaya was mentioned in the writings of the ancient Greek historian and geographer Ptolemy. It is a unique monument of the Central Asian Hellenic culture.
“When the work is recognized at the state level and the places where Alexandria is located will be improved, it will further increase the interest of the Uzbek people and foreign tourists in history and cultural heritage. The government will develop a separate program in accordance with the recommendations of Academician Rtveladze, measures will be taken to further popularize the area,” Deputy Prime Minister Aziz Abdukhakimov said at a press conference on July 22.
It should be noted that the event will be attended by UNESCO Director General Audrey Ozule and experts of the Organization, scientists and researchers.
