Shavkat Mirziyoyev expresses condolences over Tunisian president's death

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev extended his deepest condolences over the death of Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi, the press service of the head of state reported.

Essebsi died on Thursday at the age of 92 at the military hospital in the capital Tunis. He was a political figure playing a role in Tunisia's path to democracy after the 2011 Jasmine Revolution, a 28-day civil resistance campaign.

His death coincides with the 62nd anniversary of the declaration of the Republic of Tunisia.

Essebsi was born in November 1926 and took over the Tunisian presidency after winning the 2014 elections.
