Abdulaziz Kamilov receives UN Special Rapporteur

On September 19, 2019, Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov received the UN delegation led by Diego García-Sayán, Special Rapporteur on the Independence of Judges and Lawyers, the MFA press service said.

During the conversation, priority areas of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN and its structures were discussed.

The parties emphasized mutual interest in developing constructive cooperation between the relevant ministries and departments of Uzbekistan with the Human Rights Council and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

Uzbekistan is strictly fulfilling international obligations to protect human rights. As noted, work is underway to further implement the “Habeas Corpus” procedure, aimed at strengthening judicial control during the investigation.

The parties confirmed their readiness to continue the dialogue in nominating Uzbekistan as a member of the UN Human Rights Council for 2021-2023.
