Group of journalists from major UK media to visit Uzbekistan, help boost the country’s tourism potential

On November 5, 2019, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to the United Kingdom Said Rustamov met with the UNWTO Secretary General Zurab Pololikashvili during a ministerial summit organized by the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) as part of the London World Tourism Fair “World Travel Market-2019”.

During the conversation, questions regarding the organization of the 65th meeting of UNWTO Regional Commission for Europe in Samarkand in June 2020, which also includes the CIS and Central Asia, were discussed.

This event, which was initiated by Uzbekistan in May 2019, among other things, will contribute to the growth of international attention to the republic, its further development as a popular tourist destination.

In addition, negotiations were held with Sophie Ibbotson, Uzbekistan’s Tourism Brand Ambassador in Great Britain, with whom the possibility of further increasing the tourist flow from the UK, intensifying joint efforts in the field of popularizing the cultural and historical heritage and tourism potential of the republic among the British public were discussed.

Sophie Ibbotson, who has considerable experience in organizing press tours to Uzbekistan, informed that she plans to visit the republic again in the near future as the head of a group of journalists preparing materials for major UK media, including such publications as The Independent, The Telegraph, “Culture Trip”, “The Courier”, “Daily Mail”, and others.

Based on the results of a week-long trip, to be organized with the assistance of the national airline Uzbekistan Airways and the domestic tour operator Veres Vert, it is planned to prepare a series of publications on tourist attractions in Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva.
