Tashkent to host European Union-Central Asia High-Level Dialogue on political and security issues in 2020
On November 12, 2019, Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov, who is on a visit in Belgium, held talks with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini, the MFA said.
During the negotiations, the parties noted the need for the approval of the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (EPCA) text at the earliest possible date.
The key importance was attached to the further development of bilateral trade, economic and investment relations, including the ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan on liberalization of all spheres of the country’s life.
The sides also examined issues of cooperation in the field of security and expressed readiness to hold a meeting of the European Union-Central Asia High-Level Dialogue on political and security matters in Tashkent next year.
The head of the Uzbekistan delegation noted that decisive measures are being taken in the country to overcome the negative consequences of the Aral Sea disaster and expressed satisfaction with the support of the European Union for the Multi-Partner Human Security Trust Fund for the Aral Sea region and other environmental projects in Uzbekistan
Other topical issues of mutual interest were also discussed at the meeting.
