Supreme Court releases 19 convicted women from the courtroom
The Supreme Court of Uzbekistan, at the initiative of Shavkat Mirziyoyev, released 19 convicted women and returned them to their families, UzA reports.
Earlier, the Supreme Court and the Women’s Committee of Uzbekistan signed a memorandum. Within its framework, over the past nine months of this year, on the basis of the guarantee of the Women’s Committee, 148 women were pronounced judgment on serving non-custodial sentences.
As a continuation of this work, on December 19, at open court hearings held in the Supreme Court, the complaints filed in the control order of 19 women were examined.
At open court hearings, which were chaired by the Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court I. Muslimov, applications of the convicted women, which were submitted in the control order, were considered within the framework of the law. Facts, related to serving the main part of the sentence by convicted women, their sincere regret for the deed, and the positive qualities shown in the process of serving the sentence, were taken into account.
According to the court’s ruling, taking into consideration the guarantee of the Women’s Committee of Uzbekistan, the sentences were reduced in relation to 19 women in the manner prescribed by law. Following the hearing, the women were released in the courtroom and returned to their families.
