Unemployment rate amounted to 9% in 2019 – Labor Ministry
The unemployment rate was 9.0 percent against the economically active population and declined by 0.3 percent compared to 2018.
In December 2019, the Republican Scientific Center for Employment and Labor Protection under the Labor Ministry conducted a social survey covering 485 self-government bodies, 4,900 households and 25,800 citizens. Residents of 108 cities and districts took part in it.
According to the survey, the unemployment rate amounted to 9.0 percent compared to the economically active population, which shows a decline of 0.3 percent compared to 2018. The number of people in need of employment accounts for 1.3 million, the unemployment rate among the population aged 16-30 is 15%, and among women - 12.8%.
In 2019, the number of manpower reached 19 million, which is more by 100.9% than in 2018. The number of employed people in the economy amounted to 13.5 million (more by 102% than in the last year).
For the first time in 2019, the number of employed population in the formal sector increased by 3.7% compared to 2018, reaching 5.7 million.
The number of employed in the informal sector (excluding labor migrants) was 5.3 million. As a result of measures for legalization of jobs, informal temporary and seasonal employees decreased by 19,600, entrepreneurs operating without registration and permits decreased by 42,800.
Work experience for more than 39,100 self-employed citizens (care for patients and senior citizens, housekeeping, furniture repair, plumbing and electrical work, repair and car washing, tutoring, etc.) has been calculated, they were granted temporary employment certificates that entitle them to retirement allowances.
