The event is organized by the Senate and the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis, “Yuksalish” nationwide movement and Regional Office of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation for Central Asia.
Today, February 18, an international conference on the topic “New stage of building civil society in Uzbekistan, strengthening the role of parliament and representative bodies of khokimiyats in democratic modernization of the country” has started in Tashkent.
The conference is being attended by members of the Senate and deputies of the Legislative Chamber, representatives of local authorities, ministries and agencies, the judiciary, law enforcement bodies, civil society institutions, the mass media, heads of diplomatic missions, international and regional organizations, leading consulting companies and others.
Opening the event, the Senate Chairperson Tanzila Narbayeva noted that all government agencies are working together with the people to further develop the country and ensure economic stability.
“Today, the role of the public in reforming our society is very important. It has been noted that senators and deputies should be more active as people’s representatives. In this regard, the new idea “Community – initiator of reforms” should be applied in our daily lives.
At the same time, in order to create an effective mechanism for all senators to communicate with the people, the direct work with all local councils has been established. Appropriate trainings were held to introduce a system of senators’ interaction with 6,570 deputies of local Councils, and joint activities were determined. The main purpose of this is to increase the activity of deputies at places, and to form and develop their genuine deputy control,” Kun.uz correspondent quoted Narbayeva as saying.
The Senate Chairperson also emphasized that issues of gender equality and promoting the interests of youth will be one of the main tasks on the deputies’ agenda.
