Based on the recommendations of the Agency for Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance, guidelines were developed and delivered to all penal institutions to prevent the spread of the coronavirus infection in penitentiary institutions.

According to the information service of the Main Department of Penitentiary under the MIA, the reception of representatives of citizens and individuals in penitentiary institutions has been suspended. Employees and military inspectors underwent medical examinations. Now all persons entering the institutions are required to wear medical masks.

Disinfection with chloractive substance using fumizator equipment is carried out twice a day (in the morning and evening) in all institutions. Besides, in accordance with the agreements concluded between the penitentiary institutions and the regional disinfection stations, disinfection measures are carried out once a day at all facilities of the institutions (accommodation, kitchens, meeting rooms, etc.).

All penal colonies and pre-trial detention facilities in the system are 100% provided with protective tools (medical masks). All products are delivered to the shops operating on the territory of the institutions in packages.

Starting from May 3 this year, parcels are accepted in packages in all penitentiary institutions. Also, parcels and envelopes received by post offices are handed over to inmates after deliveries have been decontaminated by medical personnel using alcohol-containing substances.

Detainees, who are brought to the pre-trial detention facilities upon completion of the investigation, undergo a medical examination and are kept for fourteen days in a separate room set up for quarantine.

The participation of detainees in the court trial is carried out via videoconferencing. Meetings of detainees with law enforcement officers have been suspended.

Meetings of lawyers with detainees are held only in the short-term meeting room, located in the detention center. Lawyers with a body temperature of 37 degrees and above, and with signs of cold are not allowed to enter.

Every day, the body temperature of convicts serving their sentences is checked. All facilities of penitentiary institutions were equipped with propaganda materials aimed at preventing the spread of coronavirus infection. 775 quarantine seats were organized in separate rooms (isolators) for convicts serving their sentences.

On April 10, 2020, 15 types of various medical supplies worth 180 million soums provided by Hans-Ullrich Ihm, OSCE Project Coordinator in Uzbekistan, were distributed to the penal colonies No. 21 and No. 24 in the Tashkent region.

In order to create a stockpile of pathogenetic drugs, protective tools (face masks) and disinfectants in combating the coronavirus infection in penitentiaries, additional 700 million soums have been allocated.
