70% of non-operating enterprises should resume operations by the end of the year– Adham Ikramov
“Despite the pandemic, 46,600 small and medium-sized businesses were established in Uzbekistan in the first half of 2020,” Adham Ikramov, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said after a videoconference chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on 8 July.
“In 2019, the activities of 23,000 registered business entities were suspended. On behalf of the President, together with the tax authorities, we will determine what benefits, what assistance they need, what problems they have in each region, in each sector,” Ikramov said.
According to Adham Ikramov, by the end of 2020, 70% of these enterprises should resume operations in accordance with relevant instructions.
“Despite the fact that the pandemic has been going on for six months, 46,600 new small and medium enterprises have been established in the country. In cooperation with the Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction, these enterprises were instructed to learn how to do business and provide assistance through loans.
It was noted that more than 1 trillion soums of loans are required for 37,000 households under family business programs. Therefore, an additional $100 million will be allocated to support entrepreneurs,” Adham Ikramov said.
It should be recalled that the videoconference chaired by the President on July 8 was dedicated to measures to develop entrepreneurship in the regions and ensure unconditional budget revenues.
During the meeting, it was instructed to develop a completely new system of support for small businesses. It provides for the allocation of grants for part of the cost of training the entrepreneur in special courses, registration of the entity and the purchase of equipment.
