“There is no money left to buy food” – Head of the Uzbek diaspora in St. Petersburg speaks about the worsening situation of migrants
Migrants want to return from St. Petersburg because working conditions have worsened because of the pandemic.
This was announced by a representative of the Uzbek diaspora, president of the Uzbek Society “Turon” in St. Petersburg Valisher Khaydarov.
According to Rosbalt.ru, Khaydarov is constantly receiving complaints about salary arrears and employment through fake companies. However, appealing to law enforcement agencies does not help.
According to Khaydarov, the migrants themselves are partly to be blamed in this situation, because they do not know local laws and sign “documents necessary for the employer” in the hope of receiving money, “but they don't receive any,” he said.
“There hundreds of people who want to go home. They would leave if it was possible. About 150 people are registered for a charter flight, but 20-30 of them are taken on board, mostly elderly people and women with children. The consulate is crowded,” Khaydarov told Rosbalt.
According to him, protests are growing among Uzbek citizens, many of whom are desperately trying to cross the border illegally.
“They want to go home not because they miss their homeland. It is just there is nothing left to eat and no money to buy food,” Valisher Khaydarov said.
