Tanzila Narbayeva: Funds allocated for the fight against coronavirus are being misappropriated

The Senate Chairperson noted that the embezzlement of funds from the Anti-Crisis Fund by officials of the Agency for Sanitary and Epidemiological Wellbeing in regions requires serious attention.

On August 7, during the sixth plenary session of the Senate of Oliy Majlis, Senate Chairperson Tanzila Narbayeva stressed that the theft of funds allocated from the Anti-Crisis Fund requires special attention.

“We are concerned that the funds allocated to combat coronavirus are being stolen. There are some cases that require special attention. For example, the staff of the sanitary and epidemiological service in Andijan, Bukhara, Kashkadarya, Navoi and Namangan regions plundered more than 1 billion 750 million soums,” Narbayeva said.

She also criticized the activities of deputies and senators responsible for poverty reduction.

“Everything we do to reduce poverty must be systemic. However, the way we are currently working is rather chaotic. We cannot judge the performance of local councilors and senators as satisfactory. For example, no deputy or senator has come forward to address the grievances of citizens in some areas following the distribution of social assistance. Is it not the first duty of the deputy and senator to be the bridge between the people and the government, to be with their voters in such a situation?” she said.
