By the end of 2021, all schools in Uzbekistan will be provided with fiber-optic Internet, Alisher Zafarov, Deputy Director-General of Uzbektelecom JSC, said.

He made the announcement in response to a question about when quality internet will reach schools in remote and mountainous areas.

“We plan to take measures to complete the work by the end of 2021. Some places are really too far away. We aim to deliver fiber-optic communication lines to each of these areas. We now have complete information on each object. We are considering not only optics but also aspects of satellite use,” the Uzbektelecom official said at the December 11 press conference.

Reportedly, in 2020-2022, it is planned to increase the number of broadband ports to 2.5 million.

It is also planned to lay 20,000 kilometers of fiber-optic cables and increase mobile coverage to 95%.
