For the first time in its history, the Eurasian Stars International Music Festival, organized by the European Foundation for Support of Culture (EUFSC), has been held in Uzbekistan.
The event took place from January 25 to February 1 of this year in the capital city Tashkent. It included seven concerts in its programme of events and featured a multitude of renowned artists, the National Symphony Orchestra of Uzbekistan, and the Chamber Orchestra “Soloists of Uzbekistan”.
This fourth edition of Eurasian Stars marked the Foundation’s first large-scale concert series in Uzbekistan, bringing together nine celebrated soloists and four leading conductors for a succession of performances celebrating traditional and contemporary classical music.
Soloists featured in the Eurasian Stars International Music Festival included the following renowned soloists (listed in order of appearance):
- Prize-winner of the Henryk Wieniawski and Tchaikovsky Competitions, violinist Haik Kazazyan (Armenia);
- Winner of the Classic Strings Competition, violinist Meruert Karmenova (Kazakhstan);
- Bolshoi Theatre leading opera soloist, soprano Anna Aglatova (Russia);
- People's Artist of Uzbekistan, tenor Ramiz Usmanov (Uzbekistan);
- International Tchaikovsky Competition Gold Medal Winner, cellist Sergey Antonov (Russia);
- Soloist with the Moscow State Academic Philharmonic, pianist Philipp Kopachevsky (Russia);
- First Prize winner of the Tchaikovsky International Competition, violinist Sergei Dogadin (Russia);
- Soloist of the Mariinsky Orchestra clarinet section Nikita Vaganov (Russia)
- Professor of Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory, cellist Boris Andrianov (Russia).
The festival’s concerts were led by four noted maestros:
- Conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra of Uzbekistan, Alibek Kabdurakhmanov (Uzbekistan);
- Honoured Artist of Uzbekistan Anvar Raimjanov (Uzbekistan);
- Chief Conductor & Artistic Director of the Karelia Philharmonic Orchestra, Marius Stravinsky (UK)
- Principal Conductor of the Kaliningrad Music Theatre and Chief Conductor of the Moscow Youth Symphony Orchestra, Mikhail Kirchhoff (Russia).
Mr Kirchhoff also served as Artistic Director for the Eurasian Stars International Music Festival.
Together these conductors were responsible for leading the National Symphony Orchestra of Uzbekistan, as well as the Chamber Orchestra “Soloists of Uzbekistan” for the programme of events. The composers’ programme included Verdi, Tchaikovsky, Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninoff, Alexey Shor, Chausson, Sarasate, Lehar, Arditi, Glinka and Saint-Saens.
The festival was organised by the European Foundation for Support of Culture, a Malta-based organisation that seeks to promote and support cultural and educational projects in Europe and around the world. The Foundation regularly organizes concerts, festivals, competitions, workshops, masterclasses, lectures, seminars and other events in pursuance of this aim, collaborating with leading soloists, conductors, orchestras and other ensembles from across the globe.
