Uzbekistan ranked in the top ten in gold mining, with 101.6 tons of gold mined in 2020.
According to Forbes, Uzbekistan produced 101.6 tons of gold in 2020. It is noted that compared to 2019 (94.6 tons of gold), in 2020 the indicators increased.
It is also mentioned that Uzbekistan has the world’s largest open gold mine - Muruntau, which also known for its huge deposits of turquoise and arsenic. The publication admits that the mine is the world’s largest gold reserve.
Earlier, Kitco experts compiled a rating of leading gold mining deposits for 2020. According to the document, the Muruntau mine, where 2 million ounces or almost 57 tons of precious metal extracted, was in first place. The field is located in the Navoi region.
Meanwhile, China became the leader in the rating – last year the country produced 368.3 tons. In second place is Russia (331.1 tons), Australia – on the third (327.8 tons).
The top ten also included the United States (190.2 tons), Canada (170.6 tons), Ghana (138.7 tons), Brazil (107 tons), Mexico (101.6 tons) and Indonesia (100.9 tons).
To note, Uzbekistan has recently restarted export of gold after its cessation in September last year. Gold was sold for almost $1.2 billion, which positively affected the country's foreign trade turnover.
