Restrictions on children adoption may be introduced
Uzbekistan plans to introduce a number of adoption restrictions. This was reported on the website of the parliament.

It is noted that according to the data, the number of people who expressed a desire to adopt children in the republic is more than 4 thousand. In accordance with current legislation, adoption of minors is not permitted for persons previously convicted of intentional crimes.
This rule also applies to crimes of no social significance and that do not prevent adoption. In 2018-2019, 1.9 thousand citizens wanted to receive the guardianship for the adoption of a child, and this number decreased to 1.5 thousand in 2020.
Also, the law does not establish a restriction on adoption rights for persons who do not have a permanent income, or who cannot fulfill the duties of parents for health reasons. As a result, this entails the adoption by citizens of children in illegal ways, including human trafficking.
The draft law “On amendments and additions to certain legislative acts of Uzbekistan for the improvement of the legal basis for the adoption of children” has found a solution to the problems that have arisen.
The proposed project prohibits the adoption of children for persons who have committed serious crimes. At the same time, the rights to adopt children for persons who did not have a permanent income for 1 year before the adoption of the child, or whose monthly salary was lower than the minimum wage (as well as suffering from diseases that hinder adoption) are limited.
