Uzbekistan closes 167 landfills and creates new ones
Uzbekistan plans to close and reclaim 167 landfills with a total area of 1109 hectares and create 59 new sites with an area of 773 hectares.
The representatives of the State Committee for Ecology and Environmental Protection reported this at a press conference.
It is noted that in 2019-2028, as part of the strategy for the implementation of work on domestic waste management, it was planned to set up 96 mobile stations for the recycling of waste and to provide these stations with 230 special equipment units and 520 containers.
“Optimization of landfills and construction of new landfills will require $928 million, construction of recycling stations - $144 million, purchase of special equipment and containers - $406 million,” the message said.
The realization of optimization and construction projects will be at the expense of loans of international financial institutions, and reimbursement of credit funds – at the expense of “Ecological fee.
