Anti-coronavirus Stuff member tells whether patients with cancer can receive COVID-19 vaccines
It is known that today, infection with COVID-19 in patients with cancer is very difficult, and sometimes leads to tragic cases.
A member of the Anti-coronavirus Stuff, Ezozbek Rizayev, said whether or not it is possible to vaccinate patients with cancer.
“The World Health Organization has determined the need to vaccinate cancer patients against coronavirus infection. However, it is necessary to pay attention to what type of treatment a person is receiving. That is, if the patient is undergoing chemotherapy or radiation therapy, vaccinations should be given before this procedure. Why? The fact is that chemotherapy or radiation therapy is a complex treatment that leads to a weakening of the immune system in the human body. As a result, when a patient is vaccinated at this time, the body's response to coronavirus infection – the production of antibodies – is low,” he said.
This is why experts recommend vaccinating people with cancer before chemotherapy or radiation therapy. This reduces the patient's risk of contracting COVID-19 when the immune system is weakened due to special treatment.
“After all, people with cancer also need vaccinations in order to be less susceptible to coronavirus infection,” Rizayev concluded.
