Presidential spokesman makes a statement on incident involving Qalampir.uz journalist

Sherzod Asadov, the head of the presidential press service, said that this action against the journalist would be perceived as a threat to the freedom of speech, which is personally guaranteed by the President.

“I would like to say a few words about an event that has recently caused a great resonance among the public, especially the journalistic community. As you all know, it is about the pressure exerted on the Qalampir.uz journalist.

There is no justification for this disgusting situation, which is expressed in the defamation of human dignity, spread of slanderous fakes. In particular, our President said “do not be afraid, I’m behind you” to journalists. In this regard, it is a matter of serious concern that such behavior is being perpetrated against journalists.

I would like to reiterate as the press secretary of the President that journalists and their professional activities are under the protection of the law, under the constant attention of the Agency for Information and Mass Communications. We consider cases of pressure exerted on journalists, especially such ugly attempts, as a threat to the freedom of speech, which our President personally guarantees.

In this regard, I call on law enforcement agencies to urgently investigate this situation and take legal action against the perpetrators.

I would like to say to those who spread such information – believe in the capabilities of our law enforcement agencies!” Sherzod Asadov touched upon this issue.

It should be recalled that on August 7, social networks disseminated media material discrediting Feruza Najmiddinova, deputy editor-in-chief of Qalampir.uz publication. On the same day, social networks were filled with encouraging appeals to the journalist. In addition to her colleagues and government officials, she was supported by Saida Mirziyoyev, the eldest daughter of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
