Germany to supply COVID-19 vaccines to Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan and Tajikistan will receive AstraZeneca vaccines against coronavirus as part of Germany’s promised supplies to developing countries, the deputy government spokesperson and deputy head of the Press and Information Office of Germany Ulrike Demmer said.
According to her, 355,200 and 100,800 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine will be allocated to Tashkent and Dushanbe, respectively.
Other beneficiaries include Sudan (357,600), Ethiopia (271,200) and Afghanistan (213,600).
The decision that Germany will provide 30 million doses by the end of the year, primarily to developing countries, was made at the global health summit on May 21 in Rome.
The supply will be carried out primarily through the global COVAX facility, which aims to provide countries around the world with equal access to safe and effective vaccines once licensed and registered.
This initiative is jointly coordinated by the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovation (CEPI), the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
