Political parties receive permission to participate in presidential election

On August 14, a regular meeting of the Central Election Commission took place.

The meeting addressed the issues of admitting political parties to participate in the presidential election, approving the personnel of district election commissions and accrediting the mass media, Uzreport reports.

The members of the Central Election Commission (CEC) considered the first issue on the agenda – approval of the personal composition of the district election commissions for the presidential election.

According to the Electoral Code, candidates for members of district election commissions are recommended to the CEC of the Jokorga Kenes of Karakalpakstan, regional councils of people’s deputies and the council of Tashkent city within three days from the day the constituencies have been formed. According to the legislation, the number of members of the district election commission can be up to 21 people.

At the meeting, the candidates nominated to all district election commissions were considered and approved.

In accordance with Articles 14, 16, 63 of the Electoral Code and the CEC decision of April 14, 2021 “On approval of the Regulation on the procedure for collecting signatures in support of a nominated candidate for the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan”, at the meeting after considering documents submitted by political parties, the CEC allowed the participation in the presidential election of the Ecological Party of Uzbekistan, the People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Business People – the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, the Milliy Tiklanish Democratic Party of Uzbekistan and the Adolat Social Democratic Party of Uzbekistan.

Now political parties can apply to the CEC with an application for registration of a presidential candidate.

Also, the decision of the supreme body of a political party on the nomination of a presidential candidate, a protocol of the candidate indicating the last name, first name, patronymic, date of birth, position held, political affiliation, place of work and residence will be provided. These signature lists must contain at least 1% of the total number of voters.
