World Prison Brief releases data on the number of convicts in Uzbekistan’s prisons
The World Prison Brief has released a ranking of countries in terms of the number of convicts in prisons.
Uzbekistan ranked 62nd in the rating. 22,867 people are currently serving sentences in prisons.
Experts have also calculated the number of convicts per 100,000 people in different countries. In this ranking, Uzbekistan ranks 179th out of 223 states. There are 68 convicts for every 100,000 people in the republic.
In Asia, Uzbekistan ranks 27th. The first three places are taken by Turkmenistan (576 convicts per 100,000 people), Thailand (445) and the Maldives (333).
The first place in the ranking is occupied by the United States. There are a total of 2,068,800 Americans in prisons and 629 convicts for every 100,000 people.
