A teacher of the Fergana State University committed suicide. According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, he lost a large sum of money in online gambling. A source at the university said he was recently caught red-handed while taking money to help an applicant to be enrolled in the university.
A spokesman for the Prosecutor General’s Office, Hayot Shamsutdinov, confirmed the information on suicide.
“On November 17, 2021, at about 16:00, the teacher of the university B.R., a resident of Buston mahalla, Shahrihan district, committed suicide by hanging himself in the cemetery ceiling located in this area. As a result, he died at the scene.
A forensic examination did not find any injuries on the deceased’s body. The district prosecutor’s office is investigating the case.
During an operative event, it was discovered that B.R. had been playing risk-based betting games online.
It is noted that on November 16, 2021, he borrowed 57 million soums from his friend, a resident of Fergana city, to play online games and lost the money. Then he promised to return the money on November 18 and said that he would bring it from his home.
On November 18, he sent an SMS notification to family members saying that they might find him in the cemetery, and at 17:30 that day, he was found hanged in the local cemetery.
Kun.uz contacted a source at the university, where B.R. worked, to learn the causes of the incident. The source said that another incident had taken place with him recently.
“Currently, various rumors about B.R’s untimely death are being spread on social media. Therefore, clarifying the situation, we would like to inform that the crime was substantiated at an event organized by law enforcement officers at the time when the employee B.R. received money from a citizen of Sokh district, promising to enroll in the university on a tuition fee basis.
On November 17, 2021, B.R. committed suicide in the Shahrikhan district, Andijan region, where he was born and raised. Details of the incident are being investigated by law enforcement agencies,” the source said.
