PCR diagnostics, which are currently used to detect coronavirus in the country, allow the identification of a new strain.

According to the press service of the Innovative Development Ministry, to date, the SARS-CoV-2: B.1.1.529 virus (Omicron) has not been detected in Uzbekistan.

“It is possible to assess whether the virus has penetrated into our region by carefully examining the selection of samples taken from all our compatriots who have visited the regions where the omicron strain is widespread, regardless of the presence or absence of symptoms,” the ministry noted.

To identify and study new strains of the virus in the center of advanced technologies under the Ministry of Innovative Development, samples from the infectious diseases hospital are checked by PCR screening with subsequent decoding of the nucleotide sequence of positive samples to detect mutations in the S gene specific to the omicron strain.

Earlier it was reported that Uzbekistan was suspending flights with several countries due to a new strain of COVID-19.

In addition, citizens of some countries who enter Uzbekistan will have to undergo a 10-day quarantine.
