Uzbekistan strengthens responsibility for illegal interference and obstruction of the activities of journalists 

In Uzbekistan, it is planned to further strengthen the role of the media and protect the professional activities of journalists.

According to the draft “Roadmap” for the implementation of the Development Strategy for 2022-2026, in 2022, a procedure for interaction with the media will be introduced in studying the problems of citizens and the effectiveness of reforms.

The responsibility for illegal interference and obstruction of the activities of the media, including censorship by officials, pressure on editorial offices, as well as attempts to illegally seize materials and equipment will be increased.

It is also planned to amend the Law “On public oversight” in order to introduce effective and efficient forms of public control and mechanisms for their implementation.

In addition, the practice of quality control of newly built and reconstructed infrastructure facilities will be introduced on the basis of collective requests.

The practice of providing NGOs with the implementation of socially useful projects, such as poverty reduction, job creation, vocational training of low-income population on the basis of an open competition, will be introduced.
