Uzbekistan loses two-thirds of its newspapers since 2010
The number of newspapers published in Uzbekistan has declined almost threefold since 2010, according to the National Statistics Committee.
As of January 1, 2026, Uzbekistan had 219 newspapers in operation, with a combined annual circulation of 30.2 million copies.
Official data indicate that the decline has accelerated in recent years. In 2010, the country had 649 newspapers. Five years later, that figure had fallen to 620, a decrease of 29 publications.
By the end of 2020, the number had dropped further to 366, meaning 254 newspapers ceased operating over the following five-year period.
Overall, the number of printed newspapers has fallen by about three times since 2010.
