Uzbekistan to strengthen responsibility for causing harm to objects of material-cultural heritage
On January 31, a meeting of the Senate Committee on Youth, Culture and Sports was held.
First, the essence and significance of the issues included in the agenda of the upcoming plenary session of the Senate were briefly explained. After that, the Law “On introducing amendments and additions to certain legislative acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan in connection with the strengthening of the protection of objects of material-cultural heritage” was preliminary considered.
During the discussion, senators focused on the need to adopt this law and its benefits for the state and society.
The document was developed by the Prosecutor General’s Office with the aim of legally solving the problems existing in this area. It provides for strengthening liability measures for the destruction or damage of objects of material-cultural heritage, transfer to the category of grave crimes that cause significant damage to objects of this category, imposition of the preliminary investigation on the prosecutor’s office, establishment of liability for non-execution of binding instructions and submissions of the Cultural Heritage Agency under the Ministry of Tourism and Sports within the established time limits.
The law also provides for amendments and additions to the Criminal, Criminal Procedural and Administrative Responsibility Codes. In particular, liability for causing harm to objects of material-cultural heritage is being tightened.
Senators noted that the approval of this law is important for preserving the material-cultural heritage of our country, objects and territories included in the World Heritage List, and their transfer to future generations.
