In 2022, the energy system of Uzbekistan will be replenished with 7 new power plants, Spot reports with reference to the press service of the Energy Ministry.

According to the plan, six thermal and one solar power plant will be put into operation. Their total capacity will reach 1,474 MW.

Thanks to their launch, by the end of the year, the total capacity of the energy system of Uzbekistan will increase by almost 10% and exceed 16,000 MW.

Of the planned projects, two have already been implemented. In early January, two TPPs were launched – in the Bukhara region for 270 MW and near Tashkent for 240 MW. Both plants were built by the Turkish Aksa Enerji on a PPP basis.

In March, two more thermal power plants will be launched in the Tashkent region. One of them, with a capacity of 230 MW, is also being built by Aksa Enerji. Another 240 MW plant is being built by another Turkish company, Cengiz Enerji. At the same time, a TPP with a capacity of 174 MW in Khorezm will start operating.

The commissioning of a photoelectric power plant in the Samarkand region is scheduled for April. The 100 MW facility is being built and financed by the French company Total Eren SA.

At the end of the year, a new TPP in the Syrdarya region with a capacity of 220 MW will also be put into operation.

Uzbekistan is going to increase the share of renewable energy sources in electricity generation. However, according to the calculations of the Energy Ministry, by 2030, about half of the capacity will still be provided by gas and coal TPPs.
