Abdulaziz Kamilov receives newly appointed UN Resident Coordinator
On February 25, 2022, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Abdulaziz Kamilov, received the newly appointed United Nations Resident Coordinator in Uzbekistan, Roli Astkhana.
Congratulating R. Astkhana on her appointment, the Minister stressed that Uzbekistan has established constructive and trusting interaction with the UN and its specialized agencies. It is hoped that the professional achievements and work experience of the new resident coordinator will further deepen this cooperation.
It was noted that in recent years, contacts between Uzbekistan and the UN have noticeably intensified, enriched with practical content. Our country has become an active participant in processes in all areas of the Organization’s activities. In 2018-2021, at the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, four resolutions of the General Assembly were approved.
Currently, with the participation of UN agencies in Uzbekistan, 137 projects are being implemented for a total amount of over $174 million.
The prospects for deepening cooperation in such areas as regional security, stabilization and reconstruction of Afghanistan, combating modern threats and challenges, non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, promoting socio-economic development, solving environmental problems, in particular, mitigating the consequences of the Aral Sea crisis were considered.
