50,000 labor migrants returned from Russia to Uzbekistan in March
40% of migrants returned to their homeland after losing their jobs and due to the instability of the ruble exchange rate.
According to Azizbek Yunusov, Deputy Head of the Agency for External Labor Migration, 193,000 labor migrants returned to Uzbekistan in the first quarter of 2022. 133 thousand of them arrived from Russia; 50 thousand of this number returned in March.
For comparison, in 2021, 502,000 labor migrants returned to Uzbekistan, 280,000 of them from Russia.
It is noted that the Agency for External Labor Migration conducted its own study to study the reasons for the return of fellow citizens from Russia, in which about 15 thousand people took part.
15% of respondents reported that they returned due to the loss of their jobs, and 25% – due to the instability of the ruble exchange rate.
At the same time, 24% of those surveyed said they did not plan to return, but might consider leaving if they lose their job. 36% of respondents do not think about returning, as they continue to work as usual.
