Asian Cup U23: Uzbekistan will play against Japan without fans

The Uzbekistan Football Association has been fined $50,000 for unrest during a match between the Iraqi and Uzbek youth teams.

Tashkent hosts the Asian Championship among football players under 23 years old. In the quarterfinal match between Iraq and Uzbekistan, Uzbek fans threw stones and other objects at the field after Abduvakhid Nematov was shown a red card. As a result, one local and one invited photojournalist were injured. AFC announced the decision of the disciplinary commission on the case.

According to the AFC official website, one match with the participation of the Olympic team of Uzbekistan will be held without local spectators. In other words, Uzbek spectators will not be allowed to the Uzbekistan-Japan match of the semi-finals of the Asian Cup U23. Only 500 Japanese fans will be able to enter the stadium.

In addition, the AFU will be fined $50,000 for insufficient security at the stadium during the match between Uzbekistan and Iraq and non-compliance with AFC requirements. Abduvakhid Nematov was suspended for 3 matches and fined $500.

The match between Uzbekistan and Japan within the semi-finals of the U-23 Asian Cup will begin on June 15 at 21:00 at the Bunyodkor stadium.
