Shavkat Mirziyoyev explains why Uzbekistan needs constitutional reforms
On June 20, the president held a meeting with members of the constitutional commission on the formation of proposals for amending the Constitution and implementing organizational measures.
During the meeting, Shavkat Mirziyoyev explained the need for constitutional reforms in Uzbekistan.
“Why is constitutional reform needed today? Some people, including the intelligentsia, are saying that our Constitution meets modern democratic requirements and questioning the need to amend it. Indeed, our Constitution is fully consistent with the best international experience, international standards and requirements. There is no doubt about it. As a member of the commission that took part in the adoption of our current Constitution, I have already said that the Constitution of Uzbekistan is a solid legal basis for all our achievements over the years of independence.
We all know and appreciate it. At the same time, we need to better understand the important demand that rapid development itself places on us today. The difficult situation around us requires a more responsible approach to the future of our country and the adoption of urgent strategic decisions,” Mirziyoyev said.
According to the president, to date, the commission has received 48,492 proposals from citizens.
The proposals selected by the constitutional commission have been carefully discussed and are currently being submitted to the Legislative Chamber. Now the law will be discussed on the basis of relevant regulations.
