Corruption statistics in Uzbekistan published

In 2021, 91 civil servants took bribes, of which 49 were managers and 8 were deputy managers. The most corruption is in the internal affairs system. Last year, the minimum bribe was $50 and the maximum – $200,000.

In Uzbekistan, 177 crimes of bribery were committed in 2019, 161 – in 2020, and 91 – in 2021, and the number of such crimes has decreased by almost 50% over the past three years, the press secretary of the Anti-Corruption Agency Durdona Ochilova reported.

According to her, in the first 5 months of 2022, 17 bribery crimes were committed, which is 40 less than in the previous 5 months of 2021 (57 bribery crimes were committed in the first 5 months of 2021).

For example, in 2020, 118 serious (Article 210-2 of the Criminal Code), 13 very serious (Article 210-3 of the Criminal Code) bribery crimes, and in 2021, 62 serious, 6 very serious bribery crimes were committed.

In 2021, the number of serious bribery crimes decreased to 56, and the number of very serious bribery crimes decreased to 7.

In 2021, 91 bribery crimes were committed in the country, and criminal proceedings were instituted against 91 people under Article 210 of the Criminal Code.

Crimes of bribery in 2021 by regions:

1. In the city of Tashkent – 18;
2. In the Tashkent region – 13;
3. In the Jizzakh region – 9;
4. In the Andijan region – 8;
5. In the Kashkadarya region – 8;
6. In Surkhandarya region – 7;
7. In the Samarkand region – 5;
8. In the Bukhara region – 4;
9. In the Namangan region – 4;
10. In the Fergana region – 4;
11. In the Khorezm region – 4;
12. In the Syrdarya region – 3;
13. In the Navoi region – 2;
14. In the Republic of Karakalpakstan – 2.

Of the bribery crimes, 10 were committed by officials of regional and 81 – by district and city government officials.

It was noted that in 2021, no bribery crimes were committed by officials working in government agencies throughout the country.

Of the 91 bribery crimes, 49 were committed by first-level executives, 8 by deputy heads, and 34 by executives and technicians. Of the officials, 77 were men and 14 – women.

“Of the 91 bribery cases, 20 were committed by internal affairs bodies (8 belonged to road safety department), 12 – by preschool education, 10 – by khokimiyat, 6 – by military, 6 – by agriculture, 4 – by public education department, 4 – by construction, 3 – by utility services (electricity, gas, water) and 26 – other sectors,” the report said.
