Uzbekistan registers most infectious strain of coronavirus

Recently, the number of patients with COVID-19 has been growing in Uzbekistan, the geography of the spread of infection is expanding.

Today, June 23, it became known that a "stealth omicron" has been detected in Uzbekistan. Previously, experts called "stealth-omicron" the most contagious strain in the history of the pandemic.

According to the head of the Service for Sanitary and Epidemiological Welfare and Public Health, chief sanitary doctor Bakhodir Yusupaliyev, two strains of coronavirus currently dominate in Uzbekistan - "omicron" and "stealth-omicron".

In a conversation with UzA, he confirmed that now some Uzbeks are infected with “stealth omicron”.

According to him, analysis of the virus genome sequencing at the Center for Advanced Technologies under the Ministry of Innovative Development revealed the omicron strain in 67% of cases and a new mutated variant of the stealth-omicron strain in 33%.

Possibly, it is for this reason that the number of patients with coronavirus has recently been growing in Uzbekistan. Earlier it was reported that for the first time in a long time, COVID-19 was detected in 13 regions of the country, except for Syrdarya region.

Bakhodir Yusupaliyev said that the situation with the spread of infection is under control. However, it should be recalled that over the past two years, in July-August, the number of patients with COVID-19 has been growing sharply in Uzbekistan.

The Chief Sanitary Doctor stressed that it is important to pay attention to the vaccination process in the country and called on Uzbeks to get vaccinated against coronavirus.
