At the beginning of this year, the Chairman of the Central Bank, Mamarizo Nurmuratov, said that the 200,000-soum banknotes could be put into circulation by 2024. However, the recent problems with the shortage of cash and the increase in queues at ATMs seem to have speeded up the process.
With the issuance of the new banknote, the number of types of paper money in circulation in Uzbekistan reaches 12. Such a variety may cause inconvenience if the old banknotes are not collected as soon as possible.
