A criminal case initiated against officials of National Karate Federation

The President of the National Karate Federation of Uzbekistan was dissatisfied with the actions of the Federation’s former leaders and revealed signs of corruption in the activities of the Federation, which caused widespread discussion on social networks. So, the current head of the Federation has appealed to the Anti-Corruption Agency and the case is being investigated.

According to the information service of the Anti-Corruption Agency, the documents collected as a result of the investigation were submitted to the Prosecutor General’s Office for legal assessment.

Based on these documents, as a result of inspections conducted by the PGO together with other state bodies, it was established that officials of the National Karate Federation of Uzbekistan and others made false entries in official documents and embezzled budget funds on an especially large scale.

Although 49 athletes did not actually participate in 10 training camps held in 2020-2021 and did not use hotel services. False documents were issued about their participation and 403 million soums of budget funds were misappropriated.

Also, 64 types of medicines worth 78.5 million soums were stolen, which were not used by athletes.

Documents for renting a gym were drawn up, and funds in the amount of 128 million soums were transferred to the account of a hotel that did not have a gym. Thus, the funds were misappropriated.

Contributions in the amount of 150 million soums paid by participants in 3 sports competitions held in 2021 have not been credited.

Moreover, citizen U.B., who did not actually train the world karate champion D.O., was allocated $6,000 from the state budget without appropriate grounds.

In connection with the above facts, a criminal case was initiated against officials of the National Karate Federation and others under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code.
