Uzbekistan’s Embassy in Russia warns Uzbek citizens against creating volunteer battalions

The Embassy of Uzbekistan in Russia warned Uzbeks against creating volunteer battalions and (or) participating in hostilities on the territory of foreign states, for which criminal liability has been established.

The corresponding statement was published on the website of the diplomatic mission.

Diplomats recalled that, according to Article 154 of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan, mercenarism, that is, participation on the territory or side of a foreign state in an armed conflict or hostilities of a person who is not a citizen or soldier of a country in conflict, or who does not permanently reside in the territory controlled by the side who is in conflict, or is not authorized by any state to perform official duties as part of the armed forces, in order to obtain material reward or other personal benefits, shall be punished by imprisonment from 5 to 10 years.

“The Embassy warns citizens of the Republic of Uzbekistan that all persons, without exception, in respect of whom there is objective information about a committed illegal act under the above article of the Criminal Code, will be held criminally liable,” the message reads.

The Embassy urges the people of Uzbekistan not to succumb to provocations and to exercise forethought.

It should be recalled that earlier in Perm it was proposed to create a battalion named “Amir Temur” and support the “special operation” in Ukraine. The man who called on Uzbeks to take part in the war against Ukraine is Jakhongir Jalolov. He is a citizen of the Russian Federation and the head of the “Central Asian Society of Uzbeks of the Perm Territory”.

Then, the Agency for External Labor Migration under the Ministry of Employment and Labor Relations again reminded that, according to Article 154-1 of the Criminal Code, the entry of citizens of Uzbekistan into military service, into service in security agencies, police, military justice or other similar bodies of foreign states is punishable by restriction freedom for a term of 3 to 5 years or imprisonment for a term of 3 to 5 years.
