“Zarafshan” national natural park which is under threat of ecological collapse transferred to Ecocommittee jurisdiction
The “Zarafshan” national natural park in Samarkand was transferred from the system of the State Committee for Forestry to the system of the State Committee for Ecology. This is determined in a government decree adopted on August 10.
A republican commission has been formed to organize the transfer and acceptance of the national natural park with an area of 2426.2 hectares, chaired by the chairman of the committee on ecology Narzullo Oblomurodov. The commission has a number of tasks, in particular:
ꞏ development, approval and state registration of the Regulations on the natural park within 3 months; redefining the park boundaries;
ꞏ strengthening environmental control in the park area;
ꞏ organizing observation of natural objects in the park area together with the Academy of Sciences, organization of research work, etc.
Earlier, Kun.uz wrote about a sharp decrease in the water level in the river and its consequences as a result of the activities of dozens of quarries built in the area of the Zafarshan River.
