Despite loud statements that transparent auctions have been introduced in Uzbekistan and khokims have been banned from making decisions on the allocation of land, local executive authorities continue to take bribes to resolve land issues.
According to the press service of the PGO Department for Combating Economic Crimes, in the Urgench district of Khorezm region, a leading specialist of the “Chorvanasl” center promised a farmer to return a land plot of 50 hectares to the khokimiyat’s reserve. For $80,000, he was supposed to help organize a new farm and re-register the land.
However, the leading specialist of “Chorvanasl” was detained by law enforcement officers while receiving a bribe in the amount of $60,000.
The operative event was continued.
Employees of the State Security Service and the Department for Combating Economic Crimes caught the deputy khokim of Urgench district for agriculture and water management red-handed while receiving a bribe in the amount of $43,000 in his house. The official promised the farmer to create a new farm and allocate land.
On the above fact, a case was initiated under Article 210 (bribe-taking) of the Criminal Code.
