According to the Foreign Ministry, at the meeting, the parties discussed the possibility of increasing air travel between Uzbekistan and South Korea in order to meet the growing demand for mutual tourist and business trips of citizens of the two countries.
The South Korean side was informed that the tourism sector of Uzbekistan was identified by the country’s leadership as one of the strategic sectors of the national economy. It was noted that thanks to the efforts of the government, the number of foreign tourists in Uzbekistan and the number of tourist infrastructure facilities have significantly increased in a short time.
Attention was also drawn to the huge tourist potential of the ancient city of Samarkand, including the possibilities of the newly created international tourist center “The Great Silk Road” with a complex of modern hotels and an international airport. It was emphasized that the “open skies” regime was introduced at Samarkand International Airport, which means the removal of restrictions for foreign airlines on flights and directions of flights in accordance with international law.
An agreement was reached to study the issue of launching T’way Air flights to the cities of Tashkent and Samarkand, which can contribute to the further development of relations between the two countries in the socio-economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres.
