Reconstruction of the second runway at Tashkent International Airport has been completed.

The work that started in August last year was completed on April 12 and the 3,905 m long, 60 m wide runway, which can accommodate all types of aircraft, was commissioned. The track is said to be able to withstand loads of up to 285 tons.

Also, the runway has modern energy-saving lighting equipment and a landing system that complies with ICAO category 1. This allows the aircraft to land even when the horizontal visibility is 800 m and the vertical visibility is 60 m.

“Today we are opening the second renovated runway. Given that the runway was last reconstructed in 1996, this is a very important event for Tashkent Airport. The condition of the runway is an important criterion for ensuring the safety of flights. In addition, the number of flights is increasing by about 50% every year. Currently, the airport has an average of 140 flights per day. And Tashkent is turning into a “hub” – a center,” Rano Jurayeva, chairman of the board of Uzbekistan Airports JSC, said.

The reconstruction project is estimated at 120 billion soums. The project was developed by Development infrastructure and design company. The work was carried out by “Dorkompleksnab Plus”.
