Judicial powers of Robakhon Mahmudova who is nominated as presidential candidate suspended
The Supreme Court reported that, according to the law, a judge has no right to engage in political activities.
Earlier, it was reported that the “Adolat” SDP nominated Robakhon Mahmudova as a candidate for the presidential elections.
The press service of the Supreme Court reported that, in accordance with the Constitution, all citizens have the right to elect and be elected to public authorities.
“On May 12, the “Adolat” Social Democratic Party nominated Robakhon Mahmudova for the upcoming presidential elections. However, according to the law, a judge is not entitled to engage in political activities.
In this regard, the High Qualification Board of Judges, in accordance with the statement of Robakhon Mahmudova, decided to suspend her judicial powers,” the statement reads.
It should be recalled that since July 13, 2020, Robakhon Mahmudova has been holding the post of First Deputy Chairperson of the Supreme Court – Chairperson of the Judicial Collegium for Administrative Cases.
