Ex-governor of Urgench sentenced to 3 years in prison
Shukhrat Abdullayev, who worked as the governor of Urgench, Khorezm region, was deprived of his liberty for 3 years.
As the Supreme Court reported, on July 4, 2023, the open trial of the criminal case against the defendant Sh.A. (born in Khorezm region in 1967, not previously convicted, served as the governor of Urgench in 2018-2020) was completed in the Khiva district court, and the verdict was announced.
According to the announced court verdict, Sh.A. was found guilty of committing the crimes under Paragraph “a” of Article 209-2 (professional forgery) and Paragraphs “a”, “b”, Part 2 of Article 229-4 (violation of the order of land grant).
He was sentenced to 3 years of imprisonment, deprived of certain rights for 2 years, that is, the right to work as an official and materially responsible person in state bodies, organizations with state participation, and citizens’ self-governance bodies.
The parties dissatisfied with this decision are informed that they have the right to file a complaint and protest to the appellate instance of the Khorezm Regional Court within the procedure and time limit set by the law.
For information, Shukhrat Abdullayev was previously the deputy governor of Khorezm region for industrial development, capital construction, communications and communal economy issues, and at the end of 2018, he was appointed governor of Urgench.
In December 2020, he was released from his post, but it was not reported that he had been arrested.
