According to the results of a study conducted by experts, by 2030, there is a possibility that there will be a shortage of 7 billion cubic meters of water in Uzbekistan. This will make the country fall among the 33 water scarce regions. Tohir Haydarov, the first deputy chairman of Uzsuvtaminot JSC, announced this at the 43rd plenary session of the Senate of Oliy Majlis.

"Water shortage is becoming more important for Uzbekistan every year. Lack of precipitation and abnormal heat lead to the emptying of many water reservoirs," Tohir Haydarov said.

According to him, now a plan of measures for rational use of water, strengthening of the legislative base of the sector has been developed, a working group has been formed, and a plan of measures on the issue has been approved.

It envisages further expansion of the use of water-saving technologies while abandoning traditional irrigation methods, acceleration of scientific and research work in the field, revision of laws and regulations in this direction, and their improvement.
